ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR

Charlotte Dematons was born in 1957 in France, and studied Illustration and Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, a distinguished art school in Amsterdam. During her final year exhibition in 1982, her work was noticed by Lemniscaat publishers (the original publishers of The Yellow Balloon), who subsequently commissioned her first illustrated children’s book. Since then, she has illustrated various picture books, some of which have been published in China, Greece, and Japan. In 2006 and 2008 she was the recipient of the Silver Brush award. Dematons’ characteristically detailed style is especially exhibited in The Yellow Balloon.
